On March 13, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia, Ubisoft unveiled everything that's coming with Rainbow Six Siege X in the Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase. The event saw various Rainbow Six Siege developers talking about what's to come to the game in the near future, as well as the team's priorities for the game's future.
Rainbow Six Siege X is about reinforcing what Rainbow Six Siege is. It's about improving the experience while staying loyal to Rainbow Six Siege's strategy, lore, and, all in all, what makes Siege so special.
Here's everything you need to know about Rainbow Six Siege X, including its release date:
Dual Front
Ubisoft is adding a 6v6 game mode called Dual Front to Rainbow Six Siege with Rainbow Six Siege X. While a Dual Front match can last for 30 minutes, games are expected to last less than that, between 20 and 25 minutes.
For the first time ever, attackers and defenders will work together on the same team for a unique goal: take over as much map control as possible. This creates new thrilling operator combinations that will create never-seen-before game play situations, like Pulse protecting a planted defuser from the floor below.
Similarly to Team Death Match, players will be able to respawn after being killed. Before respawning, players will have the option to choose a different operator. However, unlike TDM, players won't be able to play with the same operator at once; an operator is temporarily blocked while another player is using it.

Dual Front takes place in a unique map that's notably bigger than others and it is divided into two lanes: the attacking lane and the defending lane.
While teams will be able to use attackers and defenders at the same time, not all operators have been included in Dual Front. However, the operator pool will be changing every month.
In Dual Front, players will be able to attack and defend simultaneously. This forces teams to not just focus on taking over map control but also protecting their own. At the same time, the Neutral Sector located in the center of the map includes a secondary mission where players must protect the hostage, Dokkaebi, and make sure she is extracted safely.
With three sectors to defend and three sectors to attack, your team will have to decide who does what. Remember, both are extremely important, so don't focus on attacking; otherwise, you will lose your own sectors! Pivoting between attack and defence is crucial, as well as communication and adapting to the enemy's playstyle using multiple operators.

Modernized Maps
Ubisoft is adding a visual overhaul in Rainbow Six Siege X that will initially affect five maps, which have been named as Modernized Maps: Clubhouse, Chalet, Bank, Kafe Dostoyevsky, and Border. Additionally, after Rainbow Six Siege X, Ubisoft will be adding three modernized maps per season.
In a few words, Modernized Maps have been tweaked in terms of lighting and designing. While the in-game experience won't be affected much by it, it will help players to immerse themselves in the game thanks to updated materials, their resolution, as well as the addition of improved shadows.

Weapon inspect
Rainbow Six Siege X will include a feature that many players have been begging and pleading for the last few years: weapon inspect.
For those unaware, weapon inspect is the animation that allows a player to inspect their weapon, offering a close look to all the details included in the weapon skin. If you're a skin fan, you should be delighted by these news!

Destructible Ingredients
Ubisoft will be adding Destructible Ingredients to Rainbow Six Siege with Rainbow Six Siege X.
In Rainbow Six Siege, Destructible Ingredients are elements both attackers and defenders can interact with. These create never-seen-before situations that can completely change how a particular map area is played.
So far, Ubisoft has confirmed three Destructible Ingredients, including:
- Fire Extinguisher
- Gas Pipe
- Metal Detector
The first one, the Fire Extinguisher, will release a five-second smoke cloud once an operator detonates it. Doing so is really simple, as it just takes one bullet.
The second one, the Gas Pipe, releases a 15-second flame that completely blocks a door or corridor. After the conclusion of the previously mentioned 15 seconds, the gas pipe explodes, creating a fire similar to the one caused by Goyo's Canisters. The fire takes around two seconds to vanish.
Last but not least, the Metal Detector is a device that can be temporarily or permanently disabled. While shooting the Metal Detector will permanently disable it, throwing an Impact EMP will just temporarily disable it.

New rappelling animation
Ubisoft will improve rappelling in Rainbow Six Siege with the release of Rainbow Six Siege X.
Starting from the next season, players will be able to sprint while rappelling as well as turning corners. This will make rappelling smoother.

Audio 2.0
With Rainbow Six Siege X, Ubisoft will update how audio moves around a map. This audio overhaul will be introduced to the Modernized Maps, which we mentioned above.
With these audio tweaks, players will be able to tell where the sound comes from, helping better distinguish if the opponents are to the left, right, above, or below your position.
Operator Ban Phase has been re-designed
Ubisoft is transforming the operator ban phase with Rainbow Six Siege X. Starting from the upcoming season, the operator ban phase will be split into three; instead of banning two operators per team, teams will ban an operator before the beginning of each round. By the conclusion of the first half of the match, the bans are reset.
With this change, Ubisoft is allowing players to anticipate what their opponents will do. In other words, bans will be more round focused. For instance, if you're playing on Bank and your team expects defenders to go basement, you can think about a strategy before the round starts and ban an operator according to the chosen plan. In this case, you may want to ban Mira or Kaid.

New Communication Wheel
Ubisoft will add a communication wheel in Rainbow Six Siege X. This wheel will include basic messages that players will be able to use to better express themselves without the need of using a mic.

Rainbow Six Siege becomes a free-to-play game
Starting from Rainbow Six Siege X newcomer players will be able to play Rainbow Six Siege for free. While this is exciting, there's a catch.
Following the release of Rainbow Six Siege X, there will be two Rainbow Six Siege versions: the free-to-play version and the paid version.
Players who download Rainbow Six Siege for free will have some features blocked behind a paywall, including the competitive playlists and a certain amount of operators. However, they will be able to play the casual game modes as well as having access to all of the game's skins and cosmetics.
It's worth mentioning that players who download the free-to-play version will be able to upgrade at any time. Therefore, newcomers who enjoy the game and want to experience the competitive game modes can unlock them any time they want.
With the release of Rainbow Six Siege free-to-play, Ubisoft expect more players to give the game an opportunity. Combined with a new onboarding experience, Ubisoft expects to not just keep them but also immerse them in the Rainbow Six Siege experience.

Player Protection
As usual, Ubisoft is bringing new updates regarding anti-cheat and anti toxicity, two of the developers' main concerns.
After releasing R6 Shield Guard to the community during the Six Invitational 2025 Finals, Ubisoft has now confirmed that R6 Shield Guard will be updated "live without the need of a schedule maintenance" which will make cheats "harder, more difficult, and costlier to make."
Ubisoft has also revealed a reduction in terms of toxicity since Year 9 Season 4. It's worth remembering that Year 10 Season 1 saw the implementation of the Reputation System's effects.
New menu screen
Ubisoft is changing the way Rainbow Six Siege's menu looks like with Rainbow Six Siege X. It will be a more modernized menu that will allow players to easily navigate through operators, game modes, and more. This also affects Battle Pass navigation, which has been improved. In the future, the shop will be refreshed too.
When is Rainbow Six Siege X being released?
As confirmed by Ubisoft, Rainbow Six Siege X will be released on June 10. However, you can already try some of the mentioned features by downloading Rainbow Six Siege X's Beta.
While Rainbow Six Siege X will be fully released in June 2025, Ubisoft has already confirmed that the first international Rainbow Six Siege esports competition of the 2025 season, Reload, will be played on the Rainbow Six Siege X patch. With the tournament taking place on Rio de Janeiro in May 2025 it will be a first taste for the community to have a better idea of what's to come.
