Want to complete the Dyadic Ascension in Destiny 2 and need some guidance? Then, this complete breakdown of the quest will, hopefully, help you out.

Once you go through the entire process of completing The Taken Path quest and the Derealize exotic mission, you'll be able to claim the Barrow-Dyad exotic SMG. Then it's time to get yourself a Catalyst via the Dyadic Ascension quest. There are a lot of steps to get to so let's break it all down.

Dyadic Ascension quest in Destiny 2 guide

First off, to get the quest, you'll need to complete both the Taken Path and Derealize. Once you finish the exotic mission, you'll receive the exotic quest by talking to the Shaping Slab.

Step 1: Get rank 5 with the Shaping Slab

The first part of the quest is reaching rank 5 with the slab and earning the Steel Your Nerves boon. It removes two stacks of Suffocating Terror once you use your class ability.

Play The Nether activity and keep ranking vendor XP until you eventually reach rank 5. Not much else to do here.

Step 2: Locate and collect Taken Osseous Fragments in the Nether

For this step, we'll need to collect a total of six fragments. Since step 4 also requires you to earn an additional six, we'll put the location of the 12 fragments we found.

Do note you can retroactively progress step 4, as the fragments accumulate, so we suggest you pick up all 12 in one Nether run if possible.

Hall of Souls

The first one is super easy, simply turn right from the spawn point and inspect the glowing fragment that'll be right in front of you.

Time to hunt down fragments

Then, from the initial spawn point, head over to the big altar right in the middle and continue walking in a straight direction until you reach the area past it. Look down below the bridge and you'll spot it easily.

The fragment is easy to spot

From the spot we're standing in the first image, turn right, it's impossible to miss the glowing fragment right in front of you.

Another one in the bag

For the next one in this area, head back to the spawn point and enter the room to your right, hug the left side of the wall and the fragment will be near a wall.

The Trenchway

In the initial spawn area, look to your right and down, you'll see it glowing in the spot marked.

Just pretend it's there

Next, go to the left side of the section, hugging the right side of the wall. You'll find it pretty easily.

These are really easy to spot right

Look up and slightly to the right to spot the next one, you'll have to do a bit of climbing but should be easy to get.

One more down

For the next one, keep moving all the way to the left and get to the edge of the area on the left.

The sixth fragment for this quest step

The final two are in the inner area of the Trenchway. One you'll easily find it in the small platform where you have a fight with two bosses.

One more in the books

The sixth one is right in front, you'll need to climb a small area, where you'll also find a Ravenous Wormspawn. Just follow the arrow and head to the circle in the image below.

The Mausoleum

From where you spawn, take a 180-degree turn and follow the small path to the right, easy to spot fragment.

Let's keep the hunt going

From the spawn point move towards the small altar with Taken blights in front of you, get under it, and move forward until you're about to leave the area, then turn right to spot it. It'll be tucked away in a corner.

One more for the pile

The third one is found by continuing on the path you were on. Keep moving forward and look straight up. The fragment is at the very peak of a crooked pillar.

Closer to our goal

From the spawn point, head over to the right side of the upper section of The Mausoleum, following the massive roots. You'll find the fragment near it.

Easy to track, easy to spot

From where you found the previous fragment, turn around and jump down the root headed to the lower area of The Mausoleum. Jump over and reach the highlighted area to find the next fragment.

Finally one hard to get

The final one of this area can be found in the section where you usually fight a big Taken boss. The fragment is behind this rock.

They don't really hide them so well do they

Once you earn the first six fragments and complete step 2 you'll earn the Panic Response II trait, the first upgrade available for the Barrow-Dyad. You can head over to the Enclave on Mars to craft it.

Step 3: Get rank 9 with the Shaping Slab

Once more, another grinding step, simply keep playing Nether runs until you reach the required rank and move on the next step.

Step 4: Locate and collect Taken Osseous Fragments in the Nether

Follow the guide for step 2 to follow the next six fragments. Completing this step will give you another Panic Response trait upgrade.

Step 5: Obtain the Moment of Clarity

After being time-gated for some weeks, players can now progress through step 5 of the exotic mission. To do so, you need to make it to rank 12 with the Shaping Slab.

So get back to the grind, or if you reached rank 12 already, simply collect the Moment of Clarity buff which does the following:

  • Destroying a Sigil Stone will clear all stacks of Suffocating Terror, providing immunity to further Suffocating Terror gains for a period of time

Step 6: Locate and collect Taken Osseous Fragments in the Nether

The next step is to find the remaining fragments. So get back to The Nether and clean those up to proceed to the following step.
