Ubisoft hacked: when will Rainbow Six Siege X servers go back up?

When will the chaos end?

Rainbow Six Siege X

On December 27, Ubisoft suffered a massive hack that affected all players in Rainbow Six Siege X. The consequences of the attack were severe, with players getting billions of in-game currency and unlimited access to some of the most exclusive items in the title.

Rainbow Six Siege X is one of Ubisoft's most successful games and microtransactions are a key part in the title's present and future. Immediately after being given the absurd quantities of Renown and R6 Credits, some of the game's biggest content creators warned players to not use the in-game currencies as doing so could lead players to being banned.

The incident was first reported around midday in Europe and actions started to be taken shortly after. Ubisoft first acknowledged the issue at 3:10 PM CET. Minutes later, the team temporarily closed the Rainbow Six Siege X Marketplace. This would stop players who were abusing the attack from trading skins.

Hours later, at 9:49 PM CET, Ubisoft revealed what the solution to the hack will be: players affected won't get banned and a rollback of all transactions since 11 AM (UTC time) will happen. Additionally, Ubisoft revealed that the ban ticker had been turned off in a past update, meaning any of the messages had been triggered by the team.

As a consequence of the attack, Ubisoft decided to shut down Rainbow Six Siege X's servers. This is the reason why, if you have tried to log in your Rainbow Six Siege X account, you couldn't access it.

When will Rainbow Six Siege X servers go back up?

Unfortunately for players, hours after the incident was first reported, Ubisoft have yet to release a solution to the attack. The servers are still shut and an update to reverse this situation hasn't been deployed yet.

This hack has likely come at the worst time possible, right during the holiday season. With developers being away with their families, putting together a team of people to solve this issue as soon as possible may be very difficult. However, Ubisoft have already said that "we are working very hard to make sure this is resolved and players can play again."
