Fortnite has gone offline worldwide on iOS after Apple took the decision to block the game's release on the US App Store. This was revealed today through the game's social media channels.
Fortnite was blocked from Apple in 2020 after Epic Games implemented changes to bypass the App Store payment system. Epic Games' founder, Tim Sweeney, believed that the store shouldn't take 30% of each purchase made in the form of a revenue cut, hence why the changes were made.
Shortly after, Epic Games filed a lawsuit, which was followed by a countersuit from Apple. The gaming giant even went as far as to start a campaign against the big apple, releasing a video to make them look like an evil company to try to get the community behind them.
In August of last year, the game made a return to iOS devices in the European Union, but not through the App Store. Instead, players were able to download an Epic Games Launcher and get the game through it.
Earlier this month, Epic revealed that they submitted the game for a return to the US App Store. However, it appears that Apple has blocked this attempt, prompting the publisher to bring down the iOS version of the free-to-play title worldwide as a response.
