The Spotlight event for Overwatch 2 was filled with exciting announcements, including all the new content coming with Season 15. Although we still have to wait another season for Freja's arrival, this next season will bring not only completely new mechanics that will change the game's nature but also bring back old highly-requested features.
We have prepared a full summary of all the new things revealed for the upcoming season so you can prepare accordingly.
Release date
Overwatch 2 Season 15 is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, February 18th. The corresponding update will go live at 11:00 am PT (7:00 pm GMT).
PC players will be able to preload the patch one or two days before its release through the Battle.net app. On the other hand, the preload for console players should start a few hours before its release.
Trailer
In case you haven't seen it or if you want to give it another look, here is the official trailer for Season 15 titled Honor & Glory:
Perks
Perks are the major feature being introduced into the game this season. Each hero will have a set of four predefined perks, with two classified as minor and the other two as major.
During a match, there will be a new progress bar for each hero that starts at level 1. Once it reaches level 2, players can equip one of the minor perks of the hero they're using. At level 3, players can pick a perk between the two major ones.

The perks will remain equipped until the game ends or until the player swaps their hero. After swapping, the level progression will reset, meaning the new hero selected will start at level 1 on their perks progression bar.
Loot boxes return
Straight from the grave, loot boxes are being readded into the title after being removed when the game transitioned to Overwatch 2. The boxes can be obtained through the battle pass or by completing weekly rewards. Contrary to what many believe, these won't be available to purchase with real-life currencies.
They will work just as they did in the first game, players can open them to obtain a set number of cosmetics at random.
There will be two types of boxes, normal loot boxes and legendary loot boxes. We assume the legendary boxes will have more chances of getting better cosmetics.
The pool of cosmetics players can get from the loot boxes is unknown but we believe this won't include any mythic items.
Mythic cosmetics
Speaking of mythic, Zenyatta will receive this season's mythic skin called Pixiu. The skin will have four colors in its customization options and players will also be able to purchase the gilded version (gold and black).
The second mythic coming this season will be a mythic weapon for Widowmaker. The trailer doesn't have any footage of it but Blizzard shared the following concept art to give us a taste of how it will look like once it's in the game:

If the schedule remains the same, Widowmaker's mythic sniper will arrive in the mythic shop once the Season 15 midseason patch drops.
Competitive updates
Since this is the first season of the new year, Blizzard is doing a general rank reset. All users will have to play through their placement matches in Competitive to be placed into a rank once the season is underway.
A new weapon skin called Galactic will be added as the main competitive reward for this year. Just like with Jade weapons, players can unlock these cosmetics for any hero spending 3000 Competitive points.

As has happened in recent seasons, more Competitive drives are set to arrive during Season 15.
Collaborations
Season 15 will have a second collaboration event with the K-pop group Le Sserafim. The first collaboration took place at the end of 2023 during Season 7 and it was a big hit, so it makes sense that Blizzard is running it back.
The game's official social media accounts shared the following video where the group announces the new collaboration:
The cosmetics for the collab haven't been revealed, but we expect other heroes to receive skins in the same style as the ones we saw in the first wave.
Other details
Here are other minor details about this upcoming season so you know everything going into it:
- Overwatch Classic returns with the GOATS meta (Three tanks and three supports), bringing back the original version of Brigitte.
- The April Fools event is set to come back.
- The season will have a playtest for the upcoming damage hero, Freja, which will probably happen during the second half.
