Freja is the next hero coming to Overwatch 2, meaning she will become the 43rd playable character. She was first revealed during the Showcase event at the start of February along with everything coming this year to the game, and her test weekend is happening soon.
While we wait for the hunter's arrival, here is everything you need to know about the newest character joining the hero roster.
Release date
Freja will come out at the start of Season 16 of Overwatch 2, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 22nd at 11:00 AM PT (7:00 PM UTC).
We expect the character to be available in both casual playlists as well as competitive playlists as soon as it's out, similar to what happened with the three previous heroes.
Freya's test weekend will take place from March 21st to the 24th, giving players four days to try out the new hero before it fully releases.
Bio and role
During the Spotlight event, it was explained that Freja "was once Overwatch's most renowned search and rescue operative, dedicated to save lives." However, after the organization was disbanded, she became a bounty hunter, chasing any target for the right price.
Freja comes from Denmark and belongs to the Damage category, making it the 19th hero in this section.
Abilities

Weapon
- Revdraw Crossbow (Primary fire): Rapidly fire automatic bolts.
- Take Aim (Secondary fire): Slow your movement to take aim with a high-speed explosive bolt. Using Quick Dash refreshes Take Aim.
Ultimate
- Bola Shot: Fire an explosive bola. Hitting an enemy wraps them up and pulls in other enemies.
Abilities
- Quick Dash: Vault in the direction you're moving and refresh Take Aim.
- Updraft: Launch upward with a gust of wind.
Passive
- Role - Damage: Damaging an enemy temporarily reduces their healing received.
- Bounty Hunting: Every 5 Killing Blows, gain bonus ultimate charge.
Perks
- Minor - Selectable at level 2
- Tracking Bolts: Enemies hit by regular bolts in quick succession are revealed for 4 seconds.
- Bounty Collection: Eliminations grant 2% ultimate charge. Killing blows grant 4%.
- Major - Selectable at level 3
- Ready to Hunt: Updraft grants a temporary free use of Quick Dash.
- Job's Done: After getting killing blows on 5 unique enemy players, permanently reduce the cooldown of Take Aim by 20%.
