Although Splitgate 2 was released only two months ago it's fair to say the game has had a shaky start headed by some controversial decisions, including the developers' risky decision to branch off to include a battle royale game mode as well as adding abnormally expensive microtransactions.
Despite Splitgate 2 having suffered a couple of ups and downs so far, the game is already heading to a new chapter as Splitgate 2’s Season 1 Chapter 2 will begin on July 3.
As confirmed in Splitgate 2's official X account, the game's Season 1 Chapter 2 will include a Ranked Arena, Mastery Camos, a new map, and more new content — possibly bringing balancing updates to improve the players' experience.
The news about the release of Splitgate 2's Season 1 Chapter 2 comes three days after 1047 Games confirmed on LinkedIn the team's decision to “part ways with a small group of valued 1047 Games team members” to “redirecting resources to build the best game for our players.”
Only time will tell if 1047 Games' decisions can take Splitgate 2 to a better position. As of now, according to Steam Charts, Splitgate 2 is far away from becoming a successful title, at least on PC. Historically, the game’s concurrent player record came in early June, when the game reached 25,674 concurrent players. However, the game has been slowly going down, with its 24-hour peak being 7,524 at the time of writing. Keep in mind that Splitgate 2 is also playable on console, which means the total player number is higher.
Logiclaly, the release of a new chapter and thrilling updates should be enough to attract both experienced and newcomers. But, will it be enough to keep them on the long term?
