FPS fans were pleasantly surprised when the Splitgate 2 battle royale was announced during the Summer Game Fest. While the actual announcement could have been better, it did reignite interest in this already popular shooter. Having more ways to play an enjoyable FPS game is always a good thing, since variety is the spice of life.
However, what makes this battle royale mode different from other games? Even with the innovative portal guns and good controls, fans want to know if this mode can stand out. After all, Fortnite and Apex Legends are currently king of that genre, thanks to numerous updates and crossover events.
So, without further ado, here’s what we know about the Splitgate 2 battle royale mode.
When is Splitgate 2's battle royale coming out?
Splitgate 2's battle royale has already come out! Users can already play the exciting game mode, but it won't be cheap due to its microtransactions.
What makes Splitgate 2's battle royale mode different from other games?
The main difference is 1047’s tried and tested shooting mechanics for Splitgate 2. Having these portals keeps this game fresh when compared to its competitors.
Beyond that, it’s not exactly the most original mode out there. Like in other games of the genre, players start with a pistol but slowly find better weapons as they explore the open area. In time, the level closes up, and players need to reach safe areas before getting killed. The last team that survive wins.
Not original at all, but still good fun for fans of the genre and this game in particular.
Are there microtransactions in Splitgate 2’s battle royale mode?
Yes, and they aren’t cheap.
Fans were shocked to find a Nano Swarm bundle that costs $80 at a discounted price. Without that discount, it costs a pricier $145, which is the same as two current-gen games. Even the lesser cosmetics are expensive, with portal skins costing around $30.
Needless to say, fans aren’t pleased with these prices. It’s not a great look for 1047 Games, as they want to make FPS games great again. The devs did say that they want to innovate gameplay and not microtransactions, but that’s a pretty controversial stance if we ever saw one.
That’s everything we know about Splitgate 2’s battle royale mode. It should be a fun time, just don’t bother with these microtransactions, at least not yet.
