The Thing is one of the new characters coming to Marvel Rivals in Season 1, along with The Human Torch. Both Fantastic Four members are set to join Reed Richards and Sue Storm, who were added at the start of the season.
Now that his release date has been confirmed, we have gathered all the details we have about the characters from both leaks and official sources.
Release date
Ben Grimm or The Thing is scheduled to come out on Friday, February 21st, the same time the Season 1 midseason patch drops.
The update will go live at midnight PT (8:00 AM GMT) and the developers haven't revealed if there will be a maintenance period before its release.
Role
As leaked by the RivalsLeak account on X (formerly Twitter) back in December 2024, The Thing will be part of the Vanguards roster as expected. Given that the character is all about raw strength, it makes sense that he is also another Tank choice.
Abilities
In that same post, RivalsLeaks also shared some of the character's abilities along with the corresponding descriptions. Here is a list of them:
- Solid as a Rock (Passive): Immune to enemy knockback, knockback, and other displacement effects.
- Combination Punch (Primary fire): Quick and continuous punches.
- Thunderbolt Punch (Secondary fire): Deliver a devastating punch.
- Furious Charge: Continuously charge forward, lifting up enemies in your path, leaving behind a seismic zone that prohibits displacement.
- Battlefield Support: Jumps towards teammates and adds damage reduction to them and yourself.
- Slam Moment (Ultimate ability): Uses tremendous force to knock all enemies in front of you into the air.
