After almost two years of wait, Bungie has finally unveiled Marathon's first gameplay trailer. With outstanding futuristic looks and plenty of explosions, it's fair to say Marathon has stolen the FPS show.

While it only takes a quick glance to be fully captivated by Marathon, it's important to understand who are players playing as in the game. In this article we will talk about Marathon's main characters, known as Runners. Each Runner belongs to a different class.

Marathon's Runners are defined as "cybernetic mercenaries" with unique abilities. Each of these Runners bring something totally different to the battlefield, so it's important to understand them before getting your hands on Marathon, which will be released on September 23, 2025.

During the Marathon Showcase, some of the game's developers and designers walked the community through the most important aspects. Here's more information about Marathon's Runners, provided by Andrew Witts during Marathon's reveal.

Marathon's Runners and classes explained

Runners Marathon

Marathon's Closed Alpha Test will include four Runners, known as Locus, Blackbird, Glitch, and Void. Here's a look at each one of them as well as a quick definition of their classes.

Locus

Locus is for those players who enjoy constantly engaging in gunfights, pushing their loadouts to the limit to get early kills and open a path for their teammates.

Blackbird

Blackbird's task is to figure out where enemies and players are. Knowing their locations helps Blackbird to have a rock-solid idea of what the best plan to be successful is.

Glitch

Glitch is a Runner that focuses on getting opponents out of their comfort positions. In general, Glitch could be defined as that player that makes the opponents' tasks uncomfortable.

Void

Void is the game's Sealth class, it's a sneaky Runner that can use smoke abilities to take the enemy by surprise.

How many Runners are in Bungie's Marathon?

Although we have mentioned four Runners so far (Locus, Blackbird, Glitch, and Void) by the time Marathon is released in September 23, 2025, the game will include six Runners.

Unfortunately, it's not clear if players will be able to discover the other two Runners at some point during the Marathon Closed Alpha Test. We expect them to be unveiled in the upcoming months and finally be launched to the game when Marathon is fully released later this year.

We will make sure to update this article as more information about Bungie's Marathon Runners is revealed. Until then, you can check our Marathon guide here.
