Loss protection
Gamers are hesitant to enter ranked play for a game since losing a tier is disheartening. Epic Games will take it easy on players for a bit, with a temporary set-up that will prevent lower-level players from losing rank. It won’t last forever, but this should give players confidence to start ranked play.
It was announced that Fortnite OG ranked play won’t lower ranks for losses if you’re in Silver tier or lower. This is only for the launch week, so losses will affect players once they start to get into the game’s groove. Still, this option is a good way to ease newer gamers into ranked play, assuming they want to do that.
Rewards
Despite having two different tier systems, OG Mode and the base game will share the same rewards for ranked play. OG Mode does have its own Battle Pass and loot, but players hoping for exclusive ranked rewards might be disappointed.
There is a bright side to this, as repeatable ranked rewards can be farmed by completing both games. In a way, this keeps Fortnite fresh by having more ways for players to earn these big prizes.
