Fans have pleaded for years, and Epic might have finally listened: are lightsaber pickaxes coming to Fortnite with Chapter 6 Season 3?
With the first-ever Star Wars-themed season in Fortnite, fans are expecting Epic Games to deliver some incredible content. The map is getting four new POIs inspired by the franchise, and the battle pass is set to feature some unique characters such as Darth Jar Jar.
Still, one thing players have always wanted is lightsaber pickaxes. Epic has always had a reason not to include them, but Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 might be the season to pull the trigger on the concept.
Is Fortnite adding lightsaber pickaxes?
Dataminer HYPEX noted something interesting in recent Chapter 6 Season 3 key art: some of the characters are holding unique lightsabers that we've never seen in the battle royale, or even the movies.
This could very well mean Epic Games is finally deciding to give fans what everyone's been asking for years: a proper lightsaber design pickaxe in Fortnite.
The reason for the developer's constant denial to adding sabers as pickaxes is that it would cause chaos whenever Star Wars-themed content was in the game.
We've had plenty of lightsabers added as limited-time melee weapons to the game. Mixing actual weapons with pickaxes would generate a bit of confusion as you'll have a hard time figuring out if you're about to face an unarmed opponent or someone ready to toss Darth Vader's saber at you.
First Order still going strong
If it does end up being real and Epic is adding a customizable saber that has a distinct look to those used as melee weapons, they're going to make the entire community happy. As it stands, it's nothing but a rumor, one than we hope comes true.
