DWG KIA’s success has been one of the most fun and heartwarming storylines of 2021. The scrappy group of Koreans backed by one of the East’s biggest organizations took the Siege world by storm, starting in the Mexico Major and continuing to SI 2022.
A large part of this reason is Sanghoon “yass” Yoo.
Yass has a staggering 1.22 SiegeGG Rating this year and was instrumental to DWG KIA’s deep runs in Sweden and at SI. At one point at SI, DWG KIA were looking like tournament favorites, and ended Sweden tied for the best international finish a team from APAC has ever had – and were a single bullet away from making APAC’s first international grand final.
Domestically, DWG KIA and yass dominate as well. They won APAC Playoffs in Stage 2, and were second in Stage 3.
At the Sweden Major, DWG KIA’s best performance, yass led the entire field with a 1.35 Rating – higher than the event’s MVP, Jaime “Cyber” Ramos.
DWG KIA, and by extension, yass, gave APAC fans a reason to believe in the region at the upper echelons of international competition again. Ignore APAC at your own peril. In 2022, yass is still coming.
