Star Wars Battlefront 2, which was developed by DICE and released back in 2017, has gained popularity once again, as player numbers are climbing on Steam to record levels. All this is happening amid a fan-led campaign for EA to make another entry in the multimillion-selling franchise.
According to SteamDB, an all-time peak was recorded of 18,635 players on Monday, May 26, at 19:00 UTC. Until mid-April, the game had around 1200-3000 concurrent players; however, after May started, the player numbers started increasing dramatically.

The main reason why an eight-year-old game is experiencing such a surge in players remains unknown. However, this was mainly around the time Andor, the Star Wars TV series, came back for its final season on Disney+.
All this is just on Steam; Battlefront 2 is also available in the EA app, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, and fans are also undoubtedly playing on these platforms. While currently there isn't any official way to track the exact numbers, sources claim that the game's player count across all the platforms has gone as high as 160k+. However, there isn't any official evidence for this, making this number seem too good to be true.
This sudden increase in players has caught the attention of several name personalities on social media, with players also demanding a release for Battlefront 3. The hashtags #MakeBattlefront3 and #Battlefront3 have been trending, and actor Muhannad Ben Amor, who plays Wilmon Paak in Andor, commented on Instagram saying, "Star Wars gotta give us Battlefront 3 ASAP."
The StarWarsBattlefront subreddit is also experiencing increased activity and engagement since the surge. Players are actively discussing how much they are enjoying returning to the title.
Neither EA nor DICE has commented on this sudden interest at the time of writing, so fans can only hope for now that the developers consider greenlighting a third game.
