Preparations are set and during the fifth anniversary announcement video, Riot has confirmed that Valorant will transition to Unreal Engine 5 this July.
Ever since development started on the shooter, the game was originally built using the previous version of Epic's graphics engine, Unreal Engine 4.
Two years after the game came out, Unreal Engine 5 launched in April 2022 and provided new possibilities and frontiers for gaming developers of every level. Now, the engine has become a standard in the industry for both small and large studios, and Riot first announced that they were working to migrate the title back in October of last year.
Seven months later, the studio confirmed that the transition will take place when patch 11.02 comes out, which is currently expected to arrive on Tuesday, July 22nd.
Riot warned that the patch will be a significant download, simply because it will swap all the components from the old engine to replace them with the new one.
After the update, the game will feel and look the same, however, the studio promised some improvements to framerate performance and faster patch downloads for future updates after the migration.
On top of all, players who log in the game while patch 11.02 is active will receive a special gun buddy to commemorate the occasion.
