Once you start playing the game, it is necessary to quickly learn the traits that the game has due to its Attack vs. Defense dynamic. It is not only a shooter game but also a strategic one that revolves around the battles between attacking and defensive operators. What adds to the in-game reality is the fact that unlike in so many other titles, here your environment can be changed by the player's actions. Because of this, learning operators' unique abilities, and how to counter the ones other operators have is crucial to becoming good in Rainbow Six Siege.

Which One is Easier to Play? 

If you are skilled in FPSs you can make a quick decision here. Yet, if you're a first time player, it gets a bit more complicated. Those with more skill will find both easy to play. Beginners might find both hard to grasp. The truth is somewhere in the middle. VALORANT might be the game that more players will fall in love quicker as it has less agents. Abilities, weapons, maps, and gunplay are simpler making it more accessible. 

Yet, even with that, it is not a clear win for VALORANT. Even if it is more complicated at first, with just a bit of game time, one can grasp Rainbow Six Siege. It is no different from games such as Overwatch. With little time, skill will improve, trust us on this, and we're talking about both games. As we say that, people who have played FPSs before, will learn VALORANT in no time. As far as R6 goes, your previous experience in certain aspects of the game will not matter all that much. Its unique combo of needing to know the map, operator, abilities, and how to counter the opponents requires tactical planning. 

The matter of the fact is that even if you start playing R6 Siege, learn it thoroughly, with all its in-game traits, and gameplay possibilities, while you only rely on your skills as a shooter and your birth given mechanics, it is no guarantee that you will be prepared to play it competitively even with a minor group of friends who know how to play. The question whether players who played only one game can pit against better players who played another was answered. R6 Siege professional player, code name Shawk, did the tests. He was also curious if five VALORANT players could hold their ground against R6 Siege players. Of course, the battlefield was both games, as it wouldn't be fair if it was only one. 

You could call this experiment, and all of it was filmed and released on Shawk's YT channel, a success. After matching at both games, neither team was able to win a series against the other one in their preferred game of choice. Yet, there's more to it. Rainbow Six Siege players were clean in their sweep as they won the series 4:0. On the other hand VALORANT players were also successful, but the final score was 13:8 in their favour. It was quite close, and for a tad bit it also appeared that it might become embarrassing. 

We are lucky that this experiment was conducted by someone else, and not us, as it was not an easy feat. Yet, it gave us an answer. It is easier to learn to play VALORANT. It is closer to the classic FPSs all of us learned to play when we were kids. Not even professional players were able to grasp R6 from the get go and be able to counter other professionals. At the same time, R6 Siege pros were able to get their way around VALORANT quite faster, and prove their worth. 

How They Fare in Popularity

As we stated at the beginning, both games are quite popular as Esports. Yet, there's a stark difference in how popular either is. VALORANT is the more popular title. The number of players that play the game daily is somewhere between 4 and 6 million. It all depends on the day, but at the moment of writing this article, the number was just slightly above 4 million daily users. Rainbow 6 Siege is not too far away, but it is trailing behind with somewhere around 2.5 million daily players. What works in R6s favour is that VALORANT has these numbers for quite a few years with steady growth. R6 is growing quite fast, and it reached millions of daily users after having only a couple of hundred thousands not so long ago.

While growth is expected from both, it is hard to imagine that Rainbow 6 Siege will ever be able to overrun VALORANT. With all of the factors we have listed above it is evident that VALORANT is the more accessible choice. For casuals just wanting some first person shooter fun, they will go with the game that's easier to understand.

VALORANT's is already underway, group stage through July 7 and playoffs running to July 12. Rainbow Six Siege's slate starts later from August 4 to 15 and the teams coming to R6S EWC already include 2025 defending champions Team Secret, with the rest of the 22-team field still being decided through regional playoffs.
