Ubisoft confirmed during its 5th Rainbow Six Siege Community Checkpoint that one operator will die before Year 14.
Ubisoft held a presential Rainbow Six Siege Community Checkpoint in Cologne, Germany, during this year's Gamescom, to talk about Operation Split Fire, Noor, and the upcoming operator balancing changes.
Most of the questions and comments made by the crowd and Josh Mills were centered around future game modes and the state of shields. However, for once, lore stole the show.
In Rainbow Six Siege, all operators have their own background; which is often interconnected across different in-game characters. Lore isn't what drives the game but the truth is that it has always had an impact in how the game is played. For instance, when Zofia and Ela were introduced to Rainbow Six Siege, Zofia had the ability to withstand primarily due to lore reasons. Another example would be Dokkaebi not being able to call Echo.
In short, lore has affected the game and will always do, not just ability wise, but also in terms of comments between operators.
However, we're about to experience a potential huge drive when it comes to lore in Rainbow Six Siege... because the death of an operator in Rainbow Six Siege is just around the corner.
"Before the beggining of Year 14 a playable Rainbow operator will die," said Peter Lavoire, Rainbow Six Siege's Narrative Director. He says so at 3:49:35 during Ubisoft's panel at Gamescom 2026.
The death of a Rainbow Six Siege operator is a delicate matter. First, will killing an operator mean it won't be playable anymore in the game? Secondly, what will happen to the operator's bundles in the store? There are a lot of aspects that must be considered.
At the moment, it's hard to guess. Logically, getting rid of an operator like Twitch or Ash wouldn't make any sense. After all, they have a lot of bundles. In fact, Twitch has a Paragon Bundle. Could it be then an operator like Skópós, who has almost no in-game bundles or cosmetics? Only time will tell.
Rainbow Six Siege's Year 12 will be presented in February 2027 during the Six Invitational 2027. Therefore, a Rainbow Six Siege operator will die before February 2029, which is when Year 14 will begin. It also means more content for Rainbow Six Siege is confirmed to come in the next two years and a half.
