The twenty teams involved at the BLAST R6 Major Osaka have agreed on not using the newly discovered mechanic involving Tubarão and Noor, leading to the very first gentlemen's agreement seen in Rainbow Six Siege's esports scene in years.
Rumors of a potential gentlemen's agreement spread following yesterday's matches at the BLAST R6 Major Osaka. Today, shortly after the match between KINGZERO eSports and Dplus KIA began, Team Liquid Alienware's IGL Felipe "FelipoX" Lucia made the gentlemen's agreement official.
As revealed by the Brazilian, players believed the interaction between the Tubarão and Noor's gadgets would be a bug. However, after BLAST consulted the situation with Ubisoft, players were told that the interaction was intended; therefore, making it completely legal.
"Yesterday, everyone was caught by surprise by a gamechanger mechanic that was not notified anywhere, not even on the latest game patch notes. When asked by multiple teams if this was an intentional interaction, BLAST confirmed with Ubisoft that it is, which is quite weird, as these gadgets never worked this way and no one knew or was told about this change," FelipoX explained.
In front of such a game changing mechanic, various teams came with the idea to make a gentlemen's agreement. Eventually, all teams have agreed on not using the combination of operators.
Gentlemen's agreements aren't completely new in Rainbow Six Siege esports. In the Six Invitational 2019, teams agreed on not using Caveira due to a bug that affected her hitbox and movement. Despite the gentlemen's agreement being accepted, Mock-It Esports used the Brazilian operator against Team Liquid—which ended up in a very controversial situation between both teams and communities. Now, this moment in Rainbow Six Siege's history is remembered as "nice Caveira play" due to Guilherme "gohaN" Alf's reaction.
Keep in mind that gentlemen's agreements are between the players and teams. As these aren't supervised by BLAST, admins and referees can't stop teams from breaking the agreement. In other words, we could see teams breaking the gentlemen agreement with no immediate consequences. "This is something that already exists in other esports scenes, but is new to Siege and I hope and trust that every team honor the agreement," FelipoX said.
