Release date
Overwatch 2 Season 16 is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 22nd at 11:00 AM PT (7:00 PM BST). PC players can preload the corresponding update through the Battle.net launcher or Steam to have everything ready.
The season will last around eight weeks, with a significant mid-season patch dropping in around four weeks to add all the content for the season's second half.
What can we expect from the patch notes?
The patch notes for Overwatch 2 Season 16 are still not available, but they should be posted a day before the season starts or right when it kicks off on the game's official website.
However, Alex Dawson, the associate game director of OW2, already revealed some of the changes coming with this patch in the most recent Director's Take article.
Regarding perks, many are getting significant adjustments and being replaced by completely new ones. These are the changes confirmed so far:
- Sombra: Stack Overflow is getting replaced by a new perk called Viral Replication. It allows her Virus to spread to nearby enemies and will enable bolder team dives.
- Mercy: Angelic Recovery will be replaced by Angelic Resurrection. It gives 100 overhealth upon casting Resurrection.
- Juno: Locked On will be her new major perk, and it gives a lower cooldown for Pulsar Torpedoes for every enemy hit. Re-Boots will become a minor perk and replace Hyper Boost.
- Tracer: Perks will receive a nerf.
- Mei: Will gain a new major perk that will most likely simulate the freeze effect from the first Overwatch.
On top of that, many heroes will receive adjustments with this patch, including Freja. Her Revdraw Crossbow will now shoots 12 arrows before max spread, and her Bola Shot’s damage over time is now increased as well as its max radius.

Dawson also confirmed that the 6v6 Open Queues in both Quick Play and Competitive will remain in the game since the player base using these playlists has remained stable.
