Gen.G Esports have become the third team to qualify for the Valorant Esports World Cup semifinals after taking down NRG following wins on Sunset and Icebox.
Despite finishing the group stage with a 2-1 record following a 0-2 defeat against Fnatic, Gen.G Esports' victories against EDward Gaming and the team's previous international performances were enough to make the South Koreans the favorites to take down NRG. Eventually, they didn't disappoint.
Gen.G Esports had a great start to the series with a 13-6 win on their map pick, Sunset. Although the first half was quite close, with both teams swapping sides with the South Koreans being 7-5 ahead, Gen.G Esports were unstoppable during the second half of the game as they won six of their seven attacking rounds.
Meanwhile, on Icebox, the script was very similar. After Gen.G Esports finished the first half with a 7-5 lead, the South Koreans were favorites to close out the game on the second map. However, the Americans proved to be a hard nut to crack as they initially kept Gen.G Esports' pace. Unfortunately for them, despite leveling the scoreboard, the South Koreans ended up taking down NRG as they won four of their final six defenses.
While it's difficult to mention just one Gen.G Esports player, it's fair to say Kim "t3xture" Na-ra and Byeon "Munchkin" Sang-beom were the best players of the game with ACS' of 279 and 246, respectively.
Tomorrow, the South Koreans will play against the winner of the series between Team Heretics and BBL Esports.
