Proximity chat is finally coming to Fortnite, that much we knew, but Epic Games is ready to unleash it into the battle royale via Fortnite Delulu, a new limited-time mode where proximity chat will always be enabled.
Epic Games is always looking to add new ways to experience the battle royale, and Fortnite Delulu will be one such way. Content creators already got a preview of what players can expect when the mode drops. With that said, this is what you need to know about Fortnite Delulu and proximity chat coming to the battle royale.
What is Fortnite Delulu, and when is it coming out?
Fortnite Delulu is a weekend-only mode where proximity chat is enabled. The first weekend where you’ll be able to play is the one starting on September 19, Epic Games announced.
The long-awaited proximity chat feature will be tested in Delulu mode. There will not be a way to disable when you join this mode, so be sure to grab your microphone and dive deep into the chaos.
How to access Fortnite Delulu?
The playlists will likely show up alongside the current Battle Royale and Zero Build playlists made by Epic Games.
It remains to be seen if it will also be split between Zero Build Delulu mode or if it’s a strict Battle Royale mode. I’ll update this section once we get more information.
Is proximity chat coming to regular Fortnite Battle Royale and Zero Build?
No, at the time of writing, proximity chat will only be available via Fortnite Delulu.
There is a world in which Epic Games tests out this feature in other modes, and it’s possible Delulu is a simple testing ground, as we’ve mentioned, but for the time being, there won’t be proximity chat in any other mode.
What is proximity chat in Fortnite?
Proximity chat in Fortnite means you’ll be able to hear what nearby players are saying, whether they’re on your same team or enemies.
This opens the gate for some interesting gameplay opportunities and a little bit of trolling as well. I’m sure plenty of funny viral clips will come out of it, but also potential safety issues, which is why Epic Games is being a bit restrictive with its inclusion.
