Dplus KIA released a statement on July 16 to confirm the rumored delays in the payment of their players' salaries as well as their pursue of a new investor.

Dplus KIA confirmed their struggles to keep up with their financial obligations. In their statement, the South Korean powerhouse admitted that "after careful consideration, management concluded that bringing in a new investor would be the best way to ensure continued support for the club and its players while securing a sustainable future. Accordingly, the club is currently undergoing a sale process."

Shortly after the Dplus KIA's statement was released, South Korean journalist Yong Woo "kenzi" Kim reported that all players across the organization "are currently owed one month's salary." The article also includes a phone interview with a Dplus KIA representative, who admitted that "the delay in the sale of the organization disrupted our funding plans."

"We explained the situation to the players in advance and asked for their understanding. We're currently working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and will release an official statement soon," they added.

Dplus KIA's official statement highlighted the difficulty behind a process of this magnitute. "While continuing detailed negotiations with previously interested buyers, we have also signed an official agreement with a professional mergers and acquisitions (M&A) advisory firm to systematically and swiftly pursue discussions with capable new prospective buyers who can actively realize the club's vision and values.

However, because this is a significant transaction that will determine the club's future, the final coordination and advisory process has taken longer than expected due to administrative procedures. As a result, there was a temporary disruption to the club's funding plan, which unfortunately led to player salaries being delayed by one month."

The statement also indicates that Dplus KIA have been as transparent as possible with all their players. "Even amid widespread speculation surrounding the club, the players have continued to believe in the organization, support one another, and remain committed to training and competition. We would like to express both our heartfelt apologies and our immeasurable gratitude to them."

At the time of writing, Dplus KIA compete in five different esports titles, including League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, PUBG, VALORANT, and EA Sports FC. The South Korean powerhouse are mostly known for their results in League of Legends, as they won Worlds 2020 and reached the grand final in Worlds 2021. Unfortunately, their results in Riot's most popular title have taken a nosedive in recent years.

In Rainbow Six Siege, Dplus KIA's best results came while they played under the name of DAMWON Gaming. In August 2021, the South Korean powerhouse reached the quarterfinals of the Six Mexico Major. Three months later, they were one bullet away from reaching the grand final of the Six Sweden Major. Although the South Korean powerhouse featured in more international Rainbow Six Siege competitions, the team's best results since then have been Top 12 finishes at the Six Invitational 2022 and the Six Invitational 2026.

Nowadays, Dplus KIA competes in the BLAST R6 APAC North. Competing with a full Brazilian lineup, the team qualified for the BLAST R6 Major Munich and the Six Invitational 2026, where they got some surprising results against some of the best international rosters in the ecosystem.

The Dplus KIA player and former FaZe Clan, MIBR, and Team Liquid player José "bullet1" Victor explained on his personal X account the team's current situation. "To this date, I still haven't received 90% of last year's prize pool money, including Stage 2, qualifying for the Munich Major, the Munich Major, and this year's Six Invitational."

"During the last six months the organization would set a date to make the payment, the date would come, the payment isn't made, they apologise and set a new date. Repeatedly."

Dplus KIA are still alive at the BLAST R6 APAC North 2026 Stage 1 as they will play against KINOTROPE Gaming in the Lower Bracket Grand Final. If they manage to claim the win against the Japanese side, the Brazilians will play against CAG by VARREL for a spot at the Rainbow Six Siege Esports World Cup 2026.
