Valve has recently released Trade Protection for Counter-Strike 2, a new feature that protects players from losing valuable items in case of an account compromise.
This system allows players to reverse trades involving Trade Protected items within a 7-day window. It's perfect for situations where malware, phishing, or other account breaches occur.
What Is Trade Protection?

When a trade is completed in CS2, all items get immediately delivered and are usable in the game. However, they still remain Trade Protected for the coming seven days. During this period, these items:
- Can't be consumed, modified, or transferred.
- Are clearly labeled in your Steam inventory.
- Remain eligible for trade reversal.
This feature protects the players in the event of fraudulent account access. And if you take action within the 7-day period, you'll be able to reverse the trade and regain your stuff.
How to Reverse a Trade?
Here's how you can reverse a trade involving Trade Protected Items:
- Make sure you have regained control of your Steam account. You can also contact Steam Support if required.
- Look for trades using the yellow Trade Protected Shield icon.
- Next, start the trade reversal process from that page.
- All the trade-protected items in the affected trades will then be returned to their previous owners.
What Happens After Reversing?
After reversing a trade, your Steam account will be locked out of trading and Community Market use for 30 days. The cooldown period can't be removed in any way, even if you contact Steam Support.
Trades made prior to the introduction of Trade Protection also can't be reversed, and you won't be able to trade CS2 items with items from games that don't support Trade Protection.
