Just one day after Microsoft's latest quarterly earnings call, Xbox has announced a price increase in their hardware products, consoles, and games.
The publisher will join Nintendo in the trend and their first-party games will now be priced at $79.99. The change will apply to every region, not just the US, and the games are set to hit the new starting price this holiday season.
The starting price could vary from region to region, with European players probably facing a bigger cost as seen in the past.
Given that Activision-Blizzard is under the Xbox umbrella, this paves the way for new Call of Duty titles to also cost $80 for the cheapest edition.

Call of Duty 2025, which is rumored to be a direct sequel to Black Ops 2 in terms of story, could be the first title in the franchise to follow the new trend, especially because all new entries usually launch at the end of fall, really close to each year's holiday season.
Talks about game prices going up were happening earlier this year after speculations of GTA 6 costing around $100 were circling the internet. The first major publisher to set this trend in motion was Nintendo after the Switch 2 Direct at the start of April and now we are seeing more and more joining the cause.
