Exciting times are ahead of Apex Legends' players as Season 25 will bring a new legend called Sparrow to the game, among other features and tweaks.
Additionally, it's a time to celebrate as the best Apex Legends teams will gather in New Orleans, Louisiana, to compete in the ALGS 2025 Open. The tournament is the first international major competition since the ALGS 2024 Championship and will have a prize pool of USD$1M.
All in all, it's a great week to be an Apex Legends fan — or at least, on paper, it should be. Truth be told, EA and Respawn Entertainment aren't going through their golden era.
On April 29, Respawn unveiled the decision to cancel two games to focus on Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi. Moreover, IGN's Rebekah Valentine reported that "roughly 100 individuals are affected by the changes, including a mix of developers, publishing, and QA workers on Apex Legends, as well as smaller groups of individuals on the Jedi team and on the incubation projects."
It's been a couple of days since the news and we now know that Heather Woodward, the writer and creator of Apex Legends' new legend, Sparrow, has been affected by the wave of lay offs.
Humorously, Heather Woodward posted the screenshot of a promotion email about the release of Sparrow on her personal BlueSky account with the caption “I mean it’s objectively pretty funny to get a promo email for the character I wrote the day I’m let go.”
According to Heather's LinkedIn profile the writer had been part of Respawn Entertainment for the last three years and two months, between September 2021 and April 2025. She also helped in the creation of KILL CODE: PART 2 and wrote the script for Apex Legends Altered Horizons.
