Season 15 has started in Overwatch 2, starting a new competitive year in the game. This means ranks have been reset for everyone and a few additions have arrived.
This includes the debut of Galactic weapons, the third weapon skin available as part of the Competitive rewards. These shiny new purple skins have certainly been a hit for players and we have prepared a simple guide to explain to you how to get them.
How to get Galactic weapons in Overwatch 2
Galactic weapons can only be purchased with 3000 Competitive points (represented with a red symbol). The only way to obtain these points is by playing Competitive matches, regardless if they are role queue or open queue games.
Players receive 10 points per win and 5 points per draw in Competitive matches, while losses grant 0 points.
All the Competitive points available in your account before Season 15 have been converted into Legacy points, which can only be used to purchase Gold or Jade weapons.
Galactic weapons will remain as the main Competitive reward until February 2026, when the competitive year begins and a new weapon skin takes its place. After that, players will be able to buy Galactic weapons with Legacy points too.
Where to buy Galactic weapons
The process to buy a Galactic weapon in Overwatch 2 is very simple, just do the following steps:
- Open the game and go to Hero Gallery
- Select the hero you wish to buy the Galactic weapon for
- On the left-side menu, select the Weapon Variants tab. This is the last one at the time of posting this article.
- There you will see the Galactic weapon variant, just select it and you will have an option to purchase it with your Competitive points.
Best way to get Competitive points
The best way to get Competitive points is by participating in the Competitive Drives event, which happen at least one time during each season.
The drives event has a progress bar with several rewards for reaching a certain amount of drive points. Drive points can be earned by winning matches.
The rewards usually include a large number of Competitive points. The event at the end of Season 14 offered up to 6000 Competitive points to anyone who managed to complete the progress bar.
